SALTA & JUJUY: North West Argentina

The earliest settlements in Argentina were established by the Conquistadores in the North West, today the provinces of Salta and Jujuy. Eager to find safer routes to Europe for the fabulous treasures and looking for new gold and silver mines, they explored overland routes to the Atlantic and founded the first towns of Southern South America

The visitor to this area is vividly aware of the influence of the early Spanish settlers and the flavour of the Inca Culture in both Salta and Jujuy.
