LJUBLJANA AND ITS SURROUNDINGS

Ljubljana is at the heart of Slovenia, geographically, culturally, economically and politically. Its history stretches back to pre-Roman times. Since then, it has gradually evolved into a charming city of culture and architecture with a unique spirit which is both traditional and modern, distinctly Slovenian as well as readily adopting international influences. The most important contribution to the city was made by Jože Plečnik, Ljubljana’s favourite son, who was responsible for such masterpieces as Tromostovje (the Three Bridges), the open market and the National University Library.

Weekends are for a visit to the open market on a Saturday with its huge selection of high-quality produce, or a leisurely browse around the riverside antique market on a Sunday.
