Location:

Barcelona, Casa Batlló on Passeig de Gracia.

Casa Batlló is one of the two great buildings designed by Antoni Gaudi on Passeig de Gracia, the other being La Pedrera

From outside, the Casa Batlló looks like it’s made of skulls and bones. The balconies representing the skulls with holes for the eyes and the nose and the supporting pillars are making out for the bones! It also represents St George (saint patron of Cataluna) killing the dragon, with the roof looking like its scales and obviously the colours and wreathing movement.

The building was designed by Gaudi for Josep Batlló, a wealthy aristocrat, as an upmarket home. This building is a stunning and original work and well worth seeing it. It is no wonder why it has been named a world heritage site by the UNESCO in 2005!!

Challenge:

Organize a surprise and private gala dinner of 100 when the Casa Batlló is meant for over 250 people and apply a white and red flamenco on it!

Realization:

The location of the gala dinner was to be a surprise to the guest who knew they were to eat somewhere special but did not know where or what. Therefore not a word or any clue was to be divulged throughout the day!

  1. Before the evening started, guests were instructed to dress smartly.
  2. The group was then taken on a ride to the Sagrada Familia for a surprise visit of the most impressive Gaudi’s monument.
  3. They were then led to the Casa Batlló thinking it was only another visit.
  4. Upon arrival, guests could not believe their eyes at the beautiful illuminated façade of the magnificent building and were amazed to learn they were going to hold their gala dinner in this fantastical, lively and theatrical place.
  5. They were then welcome inside the house where a beautiful cocktail and finger food were waiting for them. Once served a chilled glass of champagne, they started moving around the house at they wished for a private and interactive visit of the most singular and magical work of Gaudi. All spaces were available to them, should it be the Planta Noble, the Salón Cocheras y Carboneras, the Sala Jujol or the Attic and Roof Terrace.
  6. Guests were then taken to the spectacular salon Cocheras for a sumptuous gala dinner where tables, chairs and furniture were all white accentuating the magical side of the room as well as its modernist charm.
  7. After dinner, the group was led onto the ground floor to the salon Carboneras where another surprise awaited them. Indeed, the grand salon with its arched ceilings and giant columns had been decorated with a red theme in order to welcome a passionate flamenco show. Once the show was over, guests were able to share their impressions around more drinks before getting back to their hotel knowing what a unique place the Casa Batlló is.
